Lafayette offensive lineman Jedrick Wills moved up to the No. 16 spot in the latest Rivals.com recruiting rankings released Monday.

Wills, a 6-foot-5, 318-pound offensive tackle, was previously ranked 17th by the service and as the third-best offensive lineman. In the latest ratings Wills is ranked No. 4 among offensive linemen, behind fellow five-star prospects Foster Sarell, Isaiah Wilson and Josh Myers. Of those four, only Myers — an Ohio State committ — has picked a college.

Kentucky was long thought to be the leader in Wills’ recruitment but now 247Sports’ Crystal Ball predictions favor Alabama. Wills told reporters that his recruitment is still open following Lafayette’s win over Paul Laurence Dunbar on Friday night.

Coach Eric Shaw told Dan Rieffer on Saturday that Wills’ decision is likely to come this week. Shaw told the Herald-Leader he does not expect there to be a ceremony.

Javonte Richardson, a four-star receiver out of Maples Heights (Ohio) who’s committed to Kentucky, fell out of Rivals’ top 100 recruits. He was previously ranked 97th overall.

Recent comments made by University of Kentucky football signee Landon Young that he was treated “like crap” during a recruiting visit to Ohio State have resulted in a response from Buckeyes Coach Urban Meyer and quite a bit of Internet chatter over the past couple of days.

On Wednesday, Young posted a statement on Twitter saying he has a “tremendous amount of respect” for Meyer. Here’s the full statement from Young:

UK is planning to host Koback for an unofficial visit this weekend. Fellow class of 2017 commitments Quinton Bohanna, James Hudson and Michael Warren are also expected to be in town for this weekend’s junior day.

When it comes to recruiting, never count out John Calipari.

For the past several months, it seemed that five-star post player Edrice “Bam” Adebayo was almost certain to ultimately commit to North Carolina State, the home-state school that already had a pledge from his friend and fellow five-star recruit Dennis Smith Jr.

Instead, Adebayo announced his commitment to the Kentucky Wildcats on Tuesday morning. He plans to sign a national letter of intent with UK during a ceremony prior to his high school season opener Tuesday evening.

There’s very rarely any surrender in John Calipari on the recruiting trail, and he’s clearly not conceding No. 1 prospect Harry Giles to the Duke Blue Devils.

Calipari and UK assistant coach Kenny Payne were in Virginia on Tuesday night to watch Giles’ season opener, a little less than a week before he’s expected to announce a college decision that probably won’t go the Wildcats’ way.

Duke has been considered the favorite in Giles’ recruitment for months, and that consensus has only strengthened in the past few weeks leading up to his announcement.

UPDATE: Wendell Carter did not make the trip to Big Blue Madness on Friday.

Wendell Carter — the new No. 1 recruit in the class of 2017 — will indeed be at Big Blue Madness on Friday night, according to Andrew Slater of 247Sports.

Carter had previously discussed a possible trip to Madness. He will also take an unofficial visit to Duke’s midnight madness on Saturday night.

The 6-foot-10 power forward from Atlanta earned a UK scholarship offer over the summer, and his play on the AAU and camp circuit also earned him a bump in the rankings. He is now the No. 1 overall prospect in the class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Carter also has offers from Duke, Kansas and several other major programs.

Seven-footer Thon Maker remained ESPN’s No. 1 prospect for the class of 2016 in the updated rankings that were released Wednesday.

Maker — a native of Africa who plays for a high school in Virginia — has been in recent contact with Kentucky and already has scholarship offers from many of the nation’s top programs. His guardian, Edward Smith, told the Herald-Leader last month that UK assistant Kenny Payne had called him recently and said that John Calipari would be calling soon, possibly with a UK scholarship offer.

Smith also said it was possible that Maker could reclassify to 2015, which would allow him to play college basketball a year earlier.

Detroit forward Josh Jackson, St. Louis wing Jayson Tatum, Arkansas guard Malik Monk and North Carolina power forward Harry Giles round out the new top five from ESPN.

Tatum and Giles have already received scholarship offers from Kentucky, and both players visited Lexington for Big Blue Madness last October.
