Khalid Thomas could have gone just about anywhere in the country.
He decided to join his brother in Lexington.
Thomas, the younger brother of UK freshman linebacker Pancho Thomas, committed to the Cats despite offers from Ohio State, Notre Dame, Miami, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Texas Tech and other high-level BCS programs.
Rivals.com ranks him as the 86th-best player from the state of Florida and the No. 33 overall athlete. Though he can play wide receiver, cornerback or safety, Thomas projects as a running back at Kentucky.
High school coach Ronnie Cottrell thinks he’ll make an immediate impact.
“He will be a four-year starter at running back at a school like this. That’s says a lot,” Cottrell told Cats Illustrated. “This is a prolific guy and very productive. … He’s a tremendous pass receiver and a great open field runner. Khalid is just productive and a game changer. He makes big plays for us. He’s athletic and a very smart player.”

“Kentucky’s going to more of a spread offense, which is similar to what we run at my high school. I’m already used to that kind of system, and they say I can do some big things for them running the ball and catching it.”
