Mark Stoops was expected to hit Ohio hard when he was named Kentucky’s head coach.
Stoops, aYoungstown native, wasted no time nabbing his first big recruit from the Buckeye State by securing the commitment of Cincinnati cornerback Jaleel Hytchye on Jan. 5.
“It’s a winning staff and they’re bringing in a winning environment,” Hytchye told ESPN. “… I don’t play football to lose.”
Hytchye is ranked by ESPN as a four-star recruit, the No. 24 cornerback in the class of 2013 and the No. 20 overall senior from the state of Ohio. The ESPN.com evaluation of Hytchye says he “has the coverage skills to see early playing time at the BCS level of competition.”
Hytchye chose the Wildcats over Tennessee and Pittsburgh, his other two finalists.
“Kentucky offers the opportunity to come in and build something new, to build a new tradition.”
- Hytchye (to Cats Illustrated)
