Originally committed to Nebraska, UK coach Mark Stoops was able to flip McWilson, who attended the same Youngstown high school as Stoops and new UK tight ends coach Vince Marrow — McWilson’s recruiter at Nebraska.
McWilson is considered the No. 18 safety in the class of 2013, according to Rivals and Scout. He is the No. 196 overall player in the Rivals rankings and the No. 10 recruit from Ohio — making him the first Rivals 250 player to commit to Kentucky under Stoops.
“I think Marcus is a gem,” Rivals.com analyst Josh Helmholdt wrote for the website. “He’s a complete stud and he’s built like a Mr. Universe. He’s got great instincts and he sees the field well. He could play either free or strong (safety), to be honest with you. He’s just an ideal safety prospect.”

“The first thing you notice about McWilson is he is an impressive physical specimen. Ideal size and well chiseled frame.”
