Young was already a highly regarded prospect when he burst onto the scene over the summer on the Nike EYBL circuit. His performances in those games, against some of the best competition in the country, catapulted him to a conensus top-10 ranking and raised his national recruiting profile.
The Michigan native used the attention to lobby John Calipari and his staff to extend a scholarship offer, saying multiple times that Kentucky was his “dream school.” The campaign worked, Young got his offer, and the talented wing committed to the Cats a few months later.
He’ll join the Harrison twins to form one of the premier perimeter attacks in the country. Young is known primarily as a scorer, but he should be able to blend in well with the offensive-minded Harrisons.
“The thing that Kentucky is really going to like is he’s a great passer,” said Gary Fralick, his former high school coach. “He finds the open man. When he’d get double-teamed, he’d dribble-drive and they’d collapse on him, and he would always find the right guy to pass to. He’s a fantastic passer.
“He’s very, very coachable. Always trying to please.”
Fralick coached Young for three years at Troy High School, but the UK signee transferred to Rochester High for his senior season and led that school to its first regional title since 1950.

“Kentucky’s just always been my dream school. I’ve always dreamed of going to that school. Once I went up to visit, I just fell in love with the place.”
