Vanderbilt was one of the first players from the class of 2017 to land a UK scholarship offer, but Texas Christian emerged as the perceived frontrunner in his recruitment after hiring his first cousin as an assistant coach over the summer.
UK jumped back into the mix and hosted the star player for an official visit in October. As the winter began, the Wildcats started to emerge as the favorites, and Vanderbilt ultimately committed to UK two days before Christmas.
Vanderbilt is a versatile forward who is considered to be one of the best rebounders in the class and is also an accomplished passer for his position. He has the ability to play near the basket or make plays from the perimeter, something that could come in handy for UK next season.
He’s also a former AAU teammate of fellow Texas native De’Aaron Fox. Vanderbilt officially signed with UK in April.

Summer ball stats

Vanderbilt averaged 13.5 points, 10.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game for Houston Hoops on the Nike circuit.

How long will he be a Cat?

Vanderbilt is not currently projected as a one-and-done player, according to the DraftExpress.com mock draft for 2018.

“I just felt like it had a family atmosphere when I went out there. Coach Cal — he’s a Hall of Fame coach, a great person — and I feel like he does the best with developing his players on and off the court. I feel like it’s just a great school, a great opportunity for me to excel at.”
