The very first recruit who John Calipari visited on the first day of the fall recruiting period was Bamba, a 7-footer with lots of upside who has already drawn Anthony Davis comparisons from the UK coach.
Bamba is the nation’s top uncommitted recruit – following No. 1 prospect DeAndre Ayton’s early commitment to Arizona – and he would provide some star power to what will be another stellar recruiting class at Kentucky. He has a 7-9 wingspan, 9-6 standing reach and unlimited potential as a post player.
A Harlem, N.Y., native who plays for a high school in Pennsylvania, Bamba was a surprise, last-minute addition to this year’s Big Blue Madness guest list, and he returned to Lexington in January for his official visit.
Bamba has narrowed his list of college choices to Kentucky, Duke, Michigan and Texas, but it’s been difficult for recruiting analysts to settle on a favorite.
|Sept. 2||Official visit to Michigan|
|Oct. 28||Official visit to Texas|
|Jan. 20||Official visit to Kentucky|
|Feb. 26||Official visit to Duke|
Bamba averaged 13.0 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocked shots per game for PSA Cardinals on the Nike circuit, despite missing several games in the middle of the summer due to an ankle injury.
Seemingly in no hurry to make a college decision, Bamba is expected to wait until after his senior season to make a final announcement on his recruitment.
