Hayes

Fast-rising power forward Jaxson Hayes — the most recent recipient of a UK scholarship offer — has cut his list to five schools.

Hayes told hometown Cincinnati TV station WXIX on Thursday that he is now considering Kentucky, Texas, Xavier, Butler and Georgetown. The 6-foot-10 prospect in the class of 2018 has already taken official visits to Texas and Xavier.

Scout.com’s Evan Daniels talked to the Herald-Leader about Hayes this week.

Garland

The Vanderbilt basketball program is in for a very big recruiting weekend, with three five-star players expected to be on campus for the Commodores’ football game against No. 1-ranked Alabama.

Romeo Langford, one of the top five prospects in the 2018 recruiting class, will take his first official visit this weekend and Nashville is the destination, his father told the Herald-Leader earlier this week. Langford — a 6-foot-5 player from New Albany, Ind. — includes the Dores on his list of seven schools.

High school basketball players are allowed to take five official visits — where the host college pays for most of the expenses — during the course of their recruitment, and many of UK’s top targets for the class of 2018 have already scheduled the bulk of their trips.

Five-star players R.J. Barrett, Keldon Johnson and Immanuel Quickley have been on UK’s campus for official visits in recent weeks, and another mega 2018 recruit — Zion Williamson — is expected to be in Lexington this weekend.

Shittu

The emergence of power forward Jaxson Hayes as a serious UK recruiting target Tuesday night might also mean the Cats’ pursuit of top-10 prospect Simi Shittu is nearing an end.

A few minutes after Hayes — an under-the-radar player in the class of 2018 — received a scholarship offer from Kentucky, the Herald-Leader was told by Shittu’s high school coach, Alex Popp, that Shittu had not yet scheduled a visit to Lexington. The Herald-Leader had reached out to Popp several days earlier to check on Shittu’s status with the Wildcats following John Calipari’s trip to Vermont Academy last week to see him in an open gym.

Williamson

With Rivals.com analyst Corey Evans’ report late Tuesday night that Zion Williamson has scheduled official visits for Kentucky and Kansas, the electric five-star recruit from the 2018 class is nearly set in his fall plans.

Williamson — a 6-foot-6 small forward from Spartanburg, S.C. — is now slated to take official visits to Kentucky (Sept. 22), Kansas (Sept. 30), Duke (Oct. 22) and UCLA (Oct. 27).

Calipari has meeting set with five-star recruit Bol Bol

Bol Bol

John Calipari is expected to be in California next weekend for a meeting with five-star recruit Bol Bol, his mother told the Herald-Leader on Sunday.

Bol — a 7-foot-3 power forward at Mater Dei (Calif.) — is ranked by Scout.com as the No. 2 overall recruit in the class of 2018. Five-star wing R.J. Barrett is the only player ranked ahead of Bol on that list, and Barrett was in Lexington earlier this month for his official visit to Kentucky.

Calipari coached Bol at the Team USA training camp in Colorado Springs in June, but Bol did not make the final USA Basketball squad that traveled with UK’s coach to play in the FIBA World Cup in Egypt, an omission that some analysts predicted might hurt UK’s recruitment of Bol, who had previously expressed considerable interest in the Wildcats’ program.

Johnson

Two weeks ago, after receiving a scholarship offer from the University of Kentucky, it seemed like five-star shooting guard Keldon Johnson would ultimately be part of the Wildcats’ recruiting class of 2018.

Coming out of this past weekend’s official visit to Texas, that recruitment might be looking a little different.

247Sports national analysts Jerry Meyer and Andrew Slater both switched their Crystal Ball picks for Johnson from Kentucky to Texas on Monday, shortly after the Oak Hill Academy star wrapped up his official visit to Austin.

Johnson

Five-star basketball recruit Keldon Johnson — the newest recipient of a UK scholarship offer — took an unofficial visit to North Carolina State over the weekend.

Johnson — a 6-foot-6 wing from South Hill, Va. — will be a senior at Oak Hill Academy this season and is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 11 overall recruit in the 2018 class. He is scheduled to take official visits to Texas, Florida State and Maryland next month.

UK hosted Johnson for an unofficial visit last week and extended a scholarship offer during that trip. Kentucky has since emerged as the favorite in Johnson’s recruitment.

Reddish

Scout.com national recruiting analyst Evan Daniels logged a Crystal Ball prediction on Cameron Reddish’s 247Sports page Sunday, and it’s bad news for Kentucky.

Daniels is picking Duke for Reddish, who is ranked by Scout.com as the No. 4 overall prospect in the 2018 class and has been one of UK’s top recruiting targets from that group for well over a year.

Reddish — a 6-foot-7 wing from Pennsylvania — narrowed his list to UK, Duke, UCLA, UConn and Villanova earlier this month. Duke and Kentucky have been considered the top two teams in his recruitment for the past few months.

Shittu

The new ESPN 100 basketball rankings for the class of 2018 were released Wednesday morning, and R.J. Barrett has moved past Zion Williamson and into the No. 1 spot.

A couple of players who have moved up on UK’s recruiting radar in recent weeks also received rankings bumps.

Simi Shittu — a 6-9 forward from Canada — is now the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2018 class. Shittu does not yet have an “official” scholarship offer from Kentucky, but John Calipari flew to Canada to watch him play recently and the versatile prospect is expected to land that offer as soon as he visits Lexington, a trip that could happen very soon.
