Grimes

Five-star basketball recruit Quentin Grimes announced his commitment to Kansas on Wednesday night, the final day of the early signing period.

Grimes — a 6-foot-5 combo guard from the Houston area — picked the Jayhawks over fellow finalists Kentucky, Marquette and Texas. The Longhorns were thought to be Kansas’ top competition going into the fall signing period. Grimes is the No. 16 overall recruit in the 2018 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Kansas now has the No. 1-ranked class in the country, according to 247Sports. Duke is No. 2, and Kentucky is ranked No. 3. Grimes joins a group of future Jayhawks that already included Top 50 recruits Devon Dotson, Silvio De Sousa and David McCormack.

Kentucky has already signed highly touted backcourt players Immanuel Quickley, Keldon Johnson and Tyler Herro for its 2018 class.

Tyler Herro

Kentucky is expected to get its third basketball commitment for the class of 2018 on Tuesday.

Four-star shooting guard Tyler Herro — a 6-foot-5 prospect from Milwaukee — is scheduled to announce his college decision at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, the day before the end of the early signing period.

Herro wrapped up his official visit to Lexington on Sunday, and UK is the only school that he will see before making his college announcement. Kansas, Oregon, Villanova and Butler have all been recruiting Herro since he decommitted from Wisconsin last month, but he hasn’t taken trips to any of those schools.

Garland

Five-star point guard Darius Garland will announce his college decision Monday at 3:45 p.m. from his Nashville-area high school.

Herro

Four-star shooting guard Tyler Herro said Sunday night that he will announce his college decision Tuesday, one day before the end of the early signing period and just a couple of days after wrapping up his official visit to Kentucky.

UK has emerged as the major favorite in the recruitment of Herro, a 6-foot-5 prospect from Milwaukee who backed out of a commitment to Wisconsin last month. He took his first official visit to UK over the weekend, and he will not be visiting any other schools between now and his college announcement.

Brown

Five-star center Moses Brown hosted UK Coach John Calipari for a visit Sunday, and the top-ranked recruiting analyst on the 247Sports Crystal Ball page is predicting he’ll ultimately become a Wildcat.

Brown — a 7-footer from New York — visited with Calipari and UK assistant coach Tony Barbee on Sunday. Brown is the No. 15 overall player in the 2018 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

National recruiting analyst Andrew Slater also logged a Crystal Ball pick in favor of Kentucky for Brown on Sunday. Until Slater’s prediction, Brown’s Crystal Ball page was 100 percent Maryland picks, while UCLA had also been mentioned as a possible landing spot in recent weeks.

UPDATE: Brown’s father talks to us about Calipari’s Sunday visit.

Williamson

As reported earlier this week, UK assistant coach Joel Justus was in South Carolina on Tuesday to visit five-star recruit Zion Williamson, who is arguably the Wildcats’ top target in the 2018 class.

Justus won’t be the only coach seeing Williamson this week.

Clemson was also in to see the in-state target Tuesday, and coaches from Duke, Kansas and North Carolina are all expected to see Williamson on Wednesday. Though the 6-foot-6 small forward has not set a date for his college announcement, there is a chance he could sign with a school during the early period, which ends Nov. 15.

Kentucky is currently the leader on Williamson’s 247Sports Crystal Ball page.

Herro

Four-star shooting guard Tyler Herro received a scholarship offer from John Calipari during the UK coach’s visit to Milwaukee on Tuesday, according to Rivals.com national analyst Corey Evans.

Herro — a 6-foot-5 prospect in the 2018 class — backed off of a commitment to Wisconsin a couple of weeks ago, and UK was one of the first schools to show interest in his new recruitment. He’s also considering Kansas, Oregon, Villanova and Butler, and he’s not expected to make a college decision in time for next week’s early signing period.

Kentucky is also in the mix for five-star combo guard Quentin Grimes and five-star shooting guard Keldon Johnson, who are both expected to make early college decisions. The Cats are finalists for five-star shooting guard R.J. Barrett — the No. 1 player in the 2018 rankings — but UK is seen as a long shot in that recruitment.

Grimes

Five-star combo guard Quentin Grimes got a visit from Kansas on Sunday, according to Scout.com analyst Evan Daniels, and it was the second time in less than a week that the Jayhawks made the trip.

Bill Self and the entire Kansas coaching staff were in the Houston area Monday to visit Grimes, the No. 16 overall recruit in the 247Sports composite rankings for the class of 2018.

The Jayhawks have all of the picks on Grimes’ Crystal Ball page, but recruiting insiders have told the Herald-Leader in recent days that the recruitment is still a tough one to handicap. There have been various degrees of buzz for each of the other three schools on Grimes’ final list: UK, Marquette and Texas.

Williamson

National recruiting analyst Andrew Slater switched his 247Sports Crystal Ball pick for Zion Williamson from Kansas to “foggy” on Monday.

Williamson — a 6-foot-6 small forward from Spartanburg, S.C. — is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 overall player in the 2018 class. He’s No. 2 overall in the 247Sports composite rankings.

Slater is the No. 1-ranked analyst in the 247Sports Crystal Ball standings. He changed his pick for Williamson to “foggy,” a designation that means there isn’t enough credible information on a recruitment to predict a specific team.
