Kira Lewis will take an unofficial visit to Kentucky next month.

Lewis — a 6-foot-3 guard from Alabama — is scheduled to visit UK on June 10, according to recruiting analyst Jake Weingarten.

One of the top scorers on the Nike circuit this spring, Lewis told the Herald-Leader a few weeks ago that Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Iowa State and Tennessee were among the schools recruiting him the hardest. Since then, he’s picked up new scholarship offers from Kansas, Indiana and several other top programs.

Louisville is now the leader for a Top 100 basketball prospect in the class of 2019, according to several national recruiting analysts.

Four-star shooting guard Josh Nickelberry, who visited U of L last weekend, is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 60 overall prospect in the 2019 class. On Friday, the Cards received several Crystal Ball picks in his recruitment, including predictions in their favor from national analysts Evan Daniels, Jerry Meyer and Brian Snow.

Nickelberry is a 6-4 player from Fayetteville, N.C., and he’s been on the national recruiting radar for years. His previously reported scholarship offers include North Carolina, N.C. State, Florida, UConn, Georgetown, Maryland, Xavier and Memphis, among many others.

So far, new Louisville head coach Chris Mack has zero signees for the class of 2018 and zero commitments for the class of 2019. Transfer Christen Cunningham has been the only addition to the Cardinals’ roster to this point, though they’re still looking to add another player for next season.

Nickelberry would be big for the Cardinals’ future recruiting plans. Louisville is also considered the favorite for Trinity guard David Johnson, a former U of L commitment who is ranked No. 54 nationally in the class of 2019 by 247Sports.

Hagans

Top UK basketball target James Wiseman remains the No. 1 overall prospect in the class of 2019, according to the newly released player rankings from 247Sports.

The recruiting website posted its updated rankings Thursday, keeping Wiseman — a 6-foot-11 power forward from Memphis — in the top spot. Wiseman is expected to choose either Kentucky or Memphis.

Point guard Cole Anthony moved from No. 7 to No. 2 in the new rankings. Anthony — a 6-2 prospect from New York and the son of former NBA player Greg Anthony — has been quiet about his recruitment, though UK has been monitoring him for months.

Three-star offensive tackle Jake Pope announced his commitment to the University of Kentucky on Wednesday night.

Pope — a 6-foot-7, 275-pound prospect from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. — picked up a scholarship offer from UK last month. He also has power-five offers from Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, North Carolina State and Illinois.

247Sports ranks Pope as the No. 104 offensive tackle nationally in the class of 2019, and he’s the Wildcats’ second commitment for the O-line in that group, joining West Jessamine’s Eli Cox, who committed last week.

Carey

Vernon Carey — the No. 1 overall basketball prospect in the class of 2019, according to Rivals.com — has narrowed his recruitment to five schools.

Carey — a 6-foot-10 power forward from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. — is now considering Kentucky, Duke, Miami, Michigan State and North Carolina. He cut Kansas, UCLA and Florida from his previous list.

There were no surprises in Carey’s final five. Michigan State is the only school he’s been to for an official visit. Kentucky hosted him for an unofficial visit more than a year ago, and he told the Herald-Leader last month that he’s been in contact with Bam Adebayo about possibly playing for the Cats. Duke and UNC have been recruiting him hard for more than a year, and his father is a former football standout at Miami.

Class of 2019 quarterback Connor Bazelak landed a scholarship offer from Georgia on Wednesday.

Bazelak — a 6-foot-4 prospect from Dayton, Ohio — is Kentucky’s top recruiting target at the position for the 2019 class and has already visited Lexington several times. He also has offers from Pittsburgh, Purdue, Missouri and North Carolina, among many others, and recently visited Tennessee.

247Sports ranks Bazelak as the No. 16 pro-style quarterback in the 2019 class. 247Sports national director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong logged a Crystal Ball prediction last month in favor of Kentucky.

Lecque

Jalen Lecque has received a UK basketball scholarship offer, according to national recruiting analyst Andrew Slater.

Lecque — a 6-foot-4 combo guard from New York, now playing for a high school in North Carolina — is the No. 9 overall prospect in the class of 2019, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He has talked about possibly moving to 2018 — his original class — but there’s been no final decision on that, and UK is already expected to have several talented backcourt players for next season.

If Lecque stays in the 2019 class, he’ll be among UK’s top targets at the position. He averaged 20.1 points, 9.3 assists and 9.1 rebounds per game this past season, and he’s now playing with the New York Rens — the former team of Hamidou Diallo — on the Nike circuit.

Pendleton County basketball standout Dontaie Allen generated some buzz over the weekend, playing for MATTS Mustangs at the Terrific 24 event in the Indianapolis area.

247Sports recruiting analyst Brian Snow singled out Allen as a high-major prospect in a write-up Saturday, noting that coaches from Purdue, Providence and Xavier were all there to watch him play that day.

On Sunday morning, new Louisville head coach Chris Mack turned away from the Nike and Under Armour events in the area just to see Allen play. He was joined by Xavier head coach Travis Steele, who was watching Allen for the second day in a row.

Johnson

Louisville Trinity guard David Johnson has already been committed to the hometown Cardinals once in his recruitment.

The prospect from the class of 2019 committed to U of L under head coach Rick Pitino and then backed off of that pledge after Pitino was let go last fall. The 247Sports Crystal Ball says Johnson should be a Cardinal again in the future.

National recruiting analyst Evan Daniels, who has a near-100-percent success rate with Crystal Ball picks, is the latest to log a pro-Louisville prediction for Johnson, who is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 41 overall prospect in the 2019 class.
