Jalen Green

At one time in this 2020 basketball recruiting cycle, five-star shooting guard Jalen Green was seen as one of Kentucky’s top targets for next season.

That changed around the time that fellow five-star shooting guards Brandon “BJ” Boston and Terrence Clarke committed to the Wildcats following the summer AAU season. UK, in effect, moved on to other priorities, and Green moved on to other schools. Memphis and Oregon were seen as the top candidates to land his commitment after that.

Now, a new team might be emerging as a real threat in the recruitment.

Jaden Bradley

Auburn will be hosting a few prominent basketball recruits for Saturday’s home game against Kentucky, including at least a couple of young prospects with UK ties.

Class of 2022 point guards Jaden Bradley and Scoot Henderson are both expected to be in attendance for Saturday’s game, according to Rivals.com analysts Corey Evans and Dan McDonald.

Both players have emerged as early Kentucky recruiting targets in the 2022 class. Bradley — a 6-foot-3 point guard from Charlotte — has already attended a UK home game this season and is one of the Cats’ top early targets in that class. Henderson — a 6-2 point guard from Marietta, Ga. — got a visit from Kentucky assistant coach Joel Justus earlier this season.

Sotto

Last month, Philippines basketball star Kai Sotto popped up on Kentucky’s campus for a recruiting visit, seemingly giving UK another frontcourt target for the class of 2020.

Sotto — a 7-foot-2 center — is already a major star in his home country and came to the United States last year, joining The Skill Factory (Ga.) to further his game with the intent of eventually getting to the NBA. When he arrived in the United States, a college career seemed unlikely, but Sotto’s continued flirtations with college programs give the impression that he’s seriously considering such a move for next season.

Cooper

Rivals.com national analyst Eric Bossi logged a Future Cast prediction this week for five-star point guard Sharife Cooper, who received a UK scholarship offer last fall.

Bossi joins several other national recruiting experts in picking Auburn to land Cooper, a 5-foot-11 prospect from the Atlanta area that has been strongly linked to the Tigers over the past several months. Fellow Rivals analyst Corey Evans is also picking Auburn for Cooper, and the Tigers have a huge lead on his 247Sports Crystal Ball page.

Cooper is the No. 15 overall player in the Rivals.com rankings for the 2020 class, and he’s No. 17 nationally in the 247Sports composite rankings. Earlier this year, he became the first non-senior to earn national high school player of the year honors from MaxPreps.com after averaging 28.6 points, 8.6 assists and 4.1 steals per game while leading his team to an undefeated season.

Rivals.com national analyst Corey Evans logged a Future Cast prediction in favor of Auburn for North Oldham guard Justin Powell on Monday, shortly after the Kentucky basketball star wrapped up his official visit to the SEC school.

Powell — a 6-foot-5 prospect from Louisville — started his high school career at Trinity, moved briefly to Montverde Academy (Fla.) and will wrap up as a senior at North Oldham this season. He’s currently considered a three-star recruit in the 2020 class, and he got off to a great start to the spring with his Nike travel team several weeks ago.

Five-star point guard Sharife Cooper is planning to visit Kentucky on Feb. 23 for the Wildcats’ home game against Auburn, according to national recruiting analyst Andrew Slater.

Cooper — a 6-foot-1 prospect from Marietta, Ga. — is also expecting to visit Duke soon, Slater reported after watching the class of 2020 recruit play at the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass., on Monday afternoon. Class of 2018 defensive back Jamari Brown is set to make his college decision later this month, and Kentucky might be emerging as the favorite in his recruitment.

Brown — a 6-foot-3, 180-pound prospect from Pompano Beach, Fla. — recently cut his list of schools to Auburn, Kentucky and Temple. He also had reported scholarship offers from Louisville, Mississippi State, Oregon and others.
