Allen

Pendleton County basketball star Dontaie Allen had 34 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists in an 82-47 victory over Nicholas County on Tuesday night.

Allen, who signed with UK last month, scored all of his points in the first three quarters of the game, which concluded with a running clock in the fourth quarter. Through four games this season, the 6-foot-6 wing is averaging 41.0 points and 17.0 rebounds.

Pendleton County plays its next game a little closer to Lexington — a road contest at Clark County on Friday night. That game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m.

Carey

A consensus is forming in the recruitment of Vernon Carey, the elite post player in the 2019 recruiting class who recently cut Kentucky from his list and will announce a college decision Thursday.

247Sports national analyst Evan Daniels logged a Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Duke for Carey on Monday night. That came shortly after national analyst Jerry Meyer did the same, and national recruiting expert Andrew Slater has had a Duke pick recorded for Carey since last fall.

Hurt

Five-star forward Matthew Hurt seemingly became the first UK basketball recruiting target to pose in official Wildcats gear during a visit to Lexington over the weekend.

Hurt — a 6-foot-9 forward from Minnesota and one of the top 10 prospects in the 2019 class — posted a photo to Instagram on Monday night of himself dribbling in the UK locker room while wearing a Wildcats uniform.

The practice of dressing recruits up in college gear for photo shoots has become a staple of official visits at many top basketball programs — as well as the Kentucky football program — though UK basketball hasn’t done it until now.

Anthony

Neither Cole Anthony nor Vernon Carey is still on Kentucky’s recruiting radar for the class of 2019, but those two players remain top-five national prospects and should have major impacts on college basketball next season.

That means there’s still quite a bit of national interest in where they will end up at the next level. Over the weekend, a couple of national analysts logged new Crystal Ball predictions for both players.

Allen

UK signee Dontaie Allen had 25 points and 23 rebounds in Pendleton County’s 50-45 victory over Marshall County on Saturday night at the Marshall County Hoop Fest.

Allen, who committed to UK over the summer and officially signed with the Wildcats last month, was 9-for-20 from the field and made one of five three-point attempts at the Hoop Fest, a major showcase which attracts national talent and dates back to 1996.

“Dontaie was a man amongst boys the entire game,” said Pendleton County head coach Keaton Belcher. “Marshall County played a diamond-and-1 junk defense the entire game to slow him down and he still finished with 25 points and (23) rebounds. He truly deserved most valuable player of the game.”

Ball

Kentucky is not recruiting LaMelo Ball, the Herald-Leader was told Friday.

Ball, formerly a top recruit in the class of 2019, is now playing with Spire Academy (Ohio) and has expressed interest in attending college next season. The 17-year-old from California is the younger brother of former UCLA players Lonzo and LiAngelo Ball and was considered a five-star recruit — ranked top 10 nationally by ESPN — before leaving the country to play professionally in Lithuania with his brother, LiAngelo.

Edwards

When five-star shooting guard Anthony Edwards revealed last week that he was moving from the class of 2020 to the class of 2019, a list of five schools was attached to his recruitment: Florida State, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan State and North Carolina.

247Sports national analyst Evan Daniels reported Tuesday night that three more schools have been added — Duke, Kansas and UCLA — and Edwards will enter the winter focused on those eight schools. Daniels also rescinded his recent Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Florida State, a sign that this recruitment might be a little more open than previously thought.

Hurt

Five-star forward Matthew Hurt is expected to be in Lexington this weekend for his official visit to Kentucky.

Hurt — a 6-foot-9 prospect from Rochester, Minn. — is the No. 7 overall player in the 247Sports composite rankings for the 2019 class, and he’s been one of UK’s top recruiting targets for the past year. His planned official visit to UK will be the first of his recruitment and was first reported Sunday night by Stockrisers analyst Jake Weingarten.

The early signing period for high school seniors ended Wednesday, so Hurt will not be officially signing with a college until the spring. He’s also considering Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, Memphis, Minnesota and Villanova.

Maxey

UK Coach John Calipari plans to see several top recruiting targets this weekend, the Herald-Leader has learned.

Calipari will be watching UK signee Tyrese Maxey as well as three five-star players in the 2020 class: highly touted guards RJ Hampton and Jalen Green, and star center N’Faly Dante. All three of the younger players already have scholarship offers from Kentucky, and all three have been mentioned in recruiting circles as possibilities to move to the 2019 class.

Green — a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from California — is the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2020 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Hampton — a 6-4 combo guard from Texas — is the No. 5 player in those rankings. Dante — a 6-11 prospect from Mali, now playing for a high school in Kansas — is the No. 9 overall player in the class.

CJ Walker

National recruiting expert Andrew Slater logged a Crystal Ball pick in favor of Kentucky for four-star power forward CJ Walker on Thursday morning, a day after the class of 2019 prospect announced he was ready to make his college decision.

Walker — a 6-9 player at Oak Ridge High School in Florida — revealed Wednesday that he will announce his college decision on Nov. 21, the final day of the early signing period. The twist here is that Walker has long been down to three schools — Louisiana State, Miami and Oregon — and those were the only three programs included in his video previewing the college announcement Wednesday.
