Shittu

The emergence of power forward Jaxson Hayes as a serious UK recruiting target Tuesday night might also mean the Cats’ pursuit of top-10 prospect Simi Shittu is nearing an end.

A few minutes after Hayes — an under-the-radar player in the class of 2018 — received a scholarship offer from Kentucky, the Herald-Leader was told by Shittu’s high school coach, Alex Popp, that Shittu had not yet scheduled a visit to Lexington. The Herald-Leader had reached out to Popp several days earlier to check on Shittu’s status with the Wildcats following John Calipari’s trip to Vermont Academy last week to see him in an open gym.

Johnson

Two weeks ago, after receiving a scholarship offer from the University of Kentucky, it seemed like five-star shooting guard Keldon Johnson would ultimately be part of the Wildcats’ recruiting class of 2018.

Coming out of this past weekend’s official visit to Texas, that recruitment might be looking a little different.

247Sports national analysts Jerry Meyer and Andrew Slater both switched their Crystal Ball picks for Johnson from Kentucky to Texas on Monday, shortly after the Oak Hill Academy star wrapped up his official visit to Austin.

Reddish

Scout.com national recruiting analyst Evan Daniels logged a Crystal Ball prediction on Cameron Reddish’s 247Sports page Sunday, and it’s bad news for Kentucky.

Daniels is picking Duke for Reddish, who is ranked by Scout.com as the No. 4 overall prospect in the 2018 class and has been one of UK’s top recruiting targets from that group for well over a year.

Reddish — a 6-foot-7 wing from Pennsylvania — narrowed his list to UK, Duke, UCLA, UConn and Villanova earlier this month. Duke and Kentucky have been considered the top two teams in his recruitment for the past few months.

King

247Sports national recruiting insider Andrew Slater made a Crystal Ball change Tuesday, switching a prediction for five-star forward Louis King from Kentucky to Oregon.

King — a 6-foot-7 prospect from New Jersey — played on John Calipari’s USA Basketball U19 team last month in Egypt and has played several games in front of the UK coach on the Nike circuit this summer. Still, he does not have a scholarship offer from the Wildcats.

Oregon has been prioritizing King for months, and he’s expected to announce a shortened list sometime soon. He is the No. 14 overall prospect in the 2018 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Class of 2018 defensive back Jamari Brown is set to make his college decision later this month, and Kentucky might be emerging as the favorite in his recruitment.

Brown — a 6-foot-3, 180-pound prospect from Pompano Beach, Fla. — recently cut his list of schools to Auburn, Kentucky and Temple. He also had reported scholarship offers from Louisville, Mississippi State, Oregon and others.

Hagans

Five-star point guard Ashton Hagans received a scholarship offer from North Carolina on Friday morning.

Hagans — a 6-foot-4 prospect from Covington, Ga. — is among the best point guards in the class of 2019, and he was one of the top performers from that group of recruits during the recent summer travel session. He’s the No. 2 point guard and No. 11 overall prospect nationally for 2019, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
