Carey

A consensus is forming in the recruitment of Vernon Carey, the elite post player in the 2019 recruiting class who recently cut Kentucky from his list and will announce a college decision Thursday.

247Sports national analyst Evan Daniels logged a Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Duke for Carey on Monday night. That came shortly after national analyst Jerry Meyer did the same, and national recruiting expert Andrew Slater has had a Duke pick recorded for Carey since last fall.

RJ Hampton

Five-star guard RJ Hampton landed a scholarship offer from Kentucky on Tuesday, becoming the seventh player in the 2020 class to confirm such an offer from the Wildcats.

This one wasn’t a surprise. Hampton has long been one of the top stars in the 2020 class and was actually the first prospect from that group to have an in-home visit with John Calipari last month, meeting with the UK coach just a few days into the fall recruiting period.

Stewart

247Sports national analyst Evan Daniels changed his Crystal Ball prediction for five-star center Isaiah Stewart from Kentucky to “foggy” Monday night, a day after originally picking the Wildcats.

Stewart — a 6-foot-9 prospect from Rochester, N.Y. — is the No. 5 overall player in the class of 2019, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He took an official visit to Kentucky this past weekend and visited Washington the week before.

The other schools on Stewart’s list are Duke, Indiana, Michigan State, Syracuse and Villanova. Going into the UK visit, Duke and Michigan State were widely seen as the Cats’ top competition. He does not yet have any other official visits scheduled.

Johnson

Five-star small forward Jalen Johnson picked up a scholarship offer from Kentucky during an in-home visit with Coach John Calipari on Tuesday evening.

Johnson — a 6-foot-8 prospect from Milwaukee — visited UK last fall for Big Blue Madness and has been on the Wildcats’ recruiting radar for well over a year. He joins Scottie Barnes and N’Faly Dante as the third player from the 2020 class with a confirmed offer from Kentucky.

Duke, Kansas, Arizona and home-state Wisconsin are among the many other major programs that have extended scholarship offers to Johnson, who is the No. 5 overall player in the 2020 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He averaged 18.6 points and 9.9 rebounds per game as a sophomore last season.

James

Earlier this month, five-star guard Bryan Antoine — long considered to be leaning toward Duke in his recruitment — committed to Villanova instead.

Could the Blue Devils be on the verge of losing another expected commitment?

Five-star guard Josiah James told 247Sports on Sunday that he will announce his college decision Wednesday. The final three schools in James’ recruitment are Clemson, Duke and Tennessee, and — while Duke has been considered the favorite for James for the past few months — pro-Clemson Crystal Ball predictions started rolling in Sunday.

Jalen Green

It’s still early, but some interesting Crystal Ball predictions popped up Thursday for two players that are likely to be major UK targets in the 2020 basketball recruiting cycle.

National recruiting expert Andrew Slater is predicting that California guard Jalen Green — the No. 2 player in the 247Sports composite rankings — will end up at Memphis, which is hosting him for an official visit this weekend. Top UK target James Wiseman and 2020 target RJ Hampton are also visiting Penny Hardaway’s program this weekend.

RJ Hampton

Five-star guard RJ Hampton announced on social media Friday that he intends to stay in the class of 2020, following months of speculation that he would move to the 2019 class in an attempt to play college basketball next season.

Hampton — a 6-foot-4 prospect from Little Elm, Texas — was one of the top stars on the Under Armour circuit this past summer and is considered to be the No. 4 overall recruit in the 2020 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Hurt

Kentucky will be one of the first schools to get a meeting with top-10 national basketball prospect Matthew Hurt when the fall recruiting period starts next weekend.

Coaches from UK, Duke and Kansas are scheduled to meet with the Minnesota native on Sept. 9, according to Stockrisers.com recruiting analyst Jake Weingarten. That is the first day of the fall recruiting period, when college coaches are permitted to be on the road for in-home and in-school visits with recruiting targets.

Hurt — a 6-foot-9 prospect from Rochester, Minn. — is the No. 6 overall player in the 2019 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He is also considering North Carolina, UCLA, Indiana, Memphis and Minnesota.

Five-star point guard Nico Mannion, who recently reclassified from 2020 to 2019, trimmed his list to four schools Saturday, and Kentucky is no longer in the mix.

Mannion — a 6-foot-3 prospect from Phoenix, Ariz. — is now considering Arizona, Duke, Marquette and Villanova. He did not have a scholarship offer from UK, but he did have multiple phone conversations with John Calipari in the days after his decision to reclassify.

247Sports immediately moved Mannion to the No. 11 spot in the 2019 rankings after he announced his reclassification. Arizona is the leader on his Crystal Ball page.

Bacot

Five-star post player Armando Bacot announced his final five schools Saturday afternoon, but Kentucky did not make the list.

Bacot — a 6-foot-10 prospect from Richmond, Va. — is down to Duke, Georgia, North Carolina, Oklahoma State and hometown school Virginia Commonwealth. UNC holds 100 percent of the predictions on his Crystal Ball page.

UK’s recruiting contact with Bacot had been sporadic over the past year, though he did tell Rivals.com earlier in the week that he had been in touch with Wildcats assistant coach Joel Justus recently. UK, however, never extended a scholarship offer.
