McDaniels

Several notable predictions were made recently on the Crystal Ball pages of some of the highest-ranked uncommitted basketball recruits in the 2019 class.

D1 Circuit’s Alec Kinsky, who helps oversee media operations on the Nike EYBL travel circuit, logged new predictions for Jaden McDaniels (Washington), Matthew Hurt (Duke), Trendon Watford (Memphis), Precious Achiuwa (UConn) and Lester Quinones (Memphis).

McDaniels, Hurt, Watford and Achiuwa were all McDonald’s All-Americans this year, and Quinones is a top-50 national prospect and one of the best backcourt scorers in the 2019 class. McDaniels and Watford both played on the Nike circuit last summer.

Johnson

John Calipari was in Wisconsin on Thursday to visit with Jalen Johnson, one of the top basketball recruits in the class of 2020.

Johnson — a 6-foot-8 small forward — is the No. 3 overall player in the 2020 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He has visited UK for Big Blue Madness each of the past two seasons and was one of the first players in his class to land a scholarship offer from the Wildcats.

Duke has also made Johnson a priority, however, and the Blue Devils are the early leader — albeit with a small sample size — on his 247Sports Crystal Ball page. As a junior this past season, Johnson averaged 19.7 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, earned Wisconsin player of the year honors, and led his team to its first state championship.

Top 30 prospect Cassius Stanley could also be joining that Blue Devils’ class.

Matthew Hurt

John Calipari is expected to travel to Minnesota to do a little recruiting Wednesday.

First, the UK head coach will see 2020 prospect Jalen Suggs, a two-sport standout who is a five-star basketball recruit in addition to being a top quarterback. Suggs — a 6-foot-5 combo guard — is the No. 10 overall player in the 2020 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Minnesota recruiting analyst Ryan James was the first to report that UK would be visiting him Wednesday.

Calipari is also expected to watch five-star recruit Matthew Hurt play Wednesday night, according to Minneapolis reporter Darren Wolfson. Hurt, of course, is one of the Cats’ top remaining targets in the 2019 class and one of the top high school seniors in the country. He’s already taken official visits to UK, Duke, Kansas and North Carolina, and Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski is also expected to see him play Wednesday.
