Wiseman

Former UK target James Wiseman remains the No. 1 overall player in the 2019 class, according to ESPN’s updated rankings for high school seniors.

Wiseman — a 7-footer from Tennessee — committed to Memphis in November after a lengthy recruitment. He was the first player in the 2019 class to land a UK scholarship offer.

Two UK commitments made the ESPN top 100: Chicago wing Kahlil Whitney at No. 9 and Texas point guard Tyrese Maxey at No. 11. Pendleton County wing Dontaie Allen, the Cats’ other commitment for the 2019 class, was not included on ESPN’s top 100 list.

McDaniels

ESPN released a new NBA mock draft for 2020 on Wednesday — after its analysts evaluated several top recruits at the Hoophall Classic over the weekend — and the list of possible picks is filled with current and future Kentucky Wildcats.

Top UK target Jaden McDaniels is the projected No. 1 overall pick in the new mock draft. The 6-foot-10 forward from Seattle is one of the highest ranked prospects in the 2019 class and has narrowed his recruiting list to Kentucky, San Diego State, Texas, UCLA and Washington. He is not expected to make a college decision until the spring.

Another UK target, shooting guard Anthony Edwards, is No. 2 on the list. Edwards — a 6-5 prospect from Atlanta — arrived on UK’s campus earlier this week for his official visit and is also considering Florida State, Georgia, Kansas and North Carolina.

Whitney and Roselle Catholic (N.J.) will face Norcross (Ga.) — a team led by class of 2020 UK target Brandon Boston — at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. (The Kentucky-Auburn game is scheduled to tip off at 4 p.m. Saturday on ESPN). Whitney is the No. 8 overall prospect in the class of 2019, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, and Boston is a top 10 player in the 2020 class.

Washington

ESPN’s list of the top NBA Draft prospects for 2019 was updated Thursday morning, and it now includes four Kentucky Wildcats among the top 50 players.

UK freshman Keldon Johnson remains the top Cat on the board at No. 10 overall, and he’s followed by sophomore forward PJ Washington at No. 20, well within first-round territory.

Further down the list are UK freshmen guards Tyler Herro (No. 40 overall) and Ashton Hagans (No. 43), both in positions that would put them in the middle of the second round of this year’s draft. No other UK players made the list, including post players EJ Montgomery and Nick Richards, two Wildcats who could be very important to the team’s 2019-20 roster if they decide to stick around for another season.

Whitney

ESPN revealed its first NBA mock draft for 2020 on Friday morning, and the top end of those projections includes several UK recruits.

Class of 2019 commitment Kahlil Whitney comes in as the No. 7 overall pick, and he’s joined in the top 10 by UK recruiting targets James Wiseman (No. 1), Cole Anthony (No. 2), Jaden McDaniels (No. 3) and Isaiah Stewart (No. 6). Other UK targets included in ESPN’s mock draft include Matthew Hurt (No. 16), Vernon Carey (No. 22) and current class of 2020 recruit N’Faly Dante (No. 37).

Tyrese Maxey, another UK commitment, is No. 22 on ESPN’s list, which also includes current Wildcats Ashton Hagans (No. 36) and Nick Richards (No. 46).

ESPN’s most recent mock draft for 2019 included Keldon Johnson and PJ Washington as first-round picks.

Wiseman

Add ESPN national recruiting analyst Paul Biancardi to those predicting that No. 1 prospect James Wiseman will ultimately pick Kentucky.

Biancardi took questions from readers via Twitter on Tuesday, and one asked the longtime recruiting analyst and former college coach where he thought Wiseman would end up.

“If I had a crystal ball, I would say Kentucky,” Biancardi responded.

Keldon Johnson

Keldon Johnson remained a top-10 national prospect in ESPN’s new rankings for the class of 2018, but he was one of three future Kentucky Wildcats that dropped in the website’s final update for this recruiting cycle.

Johnson fell one spot to No. 7 overall in the final rankings released Tuesday. Also dropping in the ESPN rankings were UK signees Immanuel Quickley (from No. 17 to No. 23 overall) and Tyler Herro (from No. 25 to No. 28 overall).

Before the final update, ESPN was the only major recruiting service that pegged Herro as a five-star recruit. He is now a four-star player on ESPN’s list.

New UK commitment EJ Montgomery jumped two spots to No. 14 overall.

Duke’s trio of R.J. Barrett, Zion Williamson and Cameron Reddish finished 1-2-3, respectively, in the final ESPN rankings.

Kentucky has extended scholarship offers to seven other prospects in the 2019 rankings: power forward Vernon Carey (No. 2), power forward Matthew Hurt (No. 5), combo guard Bryan Antoine (No. 7), shooting guard Scottie Lewis (No. 8), point guard Tyrese Maxey (No. 14), small forward D.J. Jeffries (No. 17) and small forward Keion Brooks (No. 30).

Williamson

A reminder that top UK basketball target Zion Williamson will lead Spartanburg (S.C.) Day against Chino Hills (Calif.) at the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass., on Saturday night in a game that will air live at 8 p.m. on ESPN.

Williamson — the No. 3 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings — took visits to six schools in the fall: Kentucky, Clemson, Duke, Kansas, North Carolina and South Carolina. Clemson has emerged as a major favorite in his recruitment in recent weeks — passing previous favorite UK — and Williamson is scheduled to announce his college decision Jan. 20.

ESPN’s Jeff Borzello interviewed Williamson on Friday, and the 6-foot-6 forward said that he had narrowed his list to three or four schools, though he didn’t specify which schools those were. He did say Clemson and South Carolina are on that list.
