Keldon Johnson

Keldon Johnson remained a top-10 national prospect in ESPN’s new rankings for the class of 2018, but he was one of three future Kentucky Wildcats that dropped in the website’s final update for this recruiting cycle.

Johnson fell one spot to No. 7 overall in the final rankings released Tuesday. Also dropping in the ESPN rankings were UK signees Immanuel Quickley (from No. 17 to No. 23 overall) and Tyler Herro (from No. 25 to No. 28 overall).

Before the final update, ESPN was the only major recruiting service that pegged Herro as a five-star recruit. He is now a four-star player on ESPN’s list.

New UK commitment EJ Montgomery jumped two spots to No. 14 overall.

Duke’s trio of R.J. Barrett, Zion Williamson and Cameron Reddish finished 1-2-3, respectively, in the final ESPN rankings.

Montgomery

Rivals.com finalized its basketball recruiting rankings for players in the class of 2018 on Monday, and Duke signee R.J. Barrett remains the No. 1 prospect for next season’s freshman class.

The Blue Devils no longer have a sweep of the top three players in 2018, however.

North Carolina signee Nassir Little jumped from No. 5 to No. 2 in the final rankings, leapfrogging Duke commitments Cameron Reddish, who fell one spot to No. 3, and Zion Williamson, who dropped two spots to No. 5. Oregon signee Bol Bol is No. 4 overall in the final rankings.

Five-star Kentucky basketball recruits Immanuel Quickley and Keldon Johnson will play in games on ESPNU on Monday, part of the network’s coverage of the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass.

Quickley — a 6-foot-3 point guard — leads John Carroll (Md.) against Hudson Catholic (N.J.) at 11 a.m. Monday. Johnson — a 6-6 wing — leads Oak Hill Academy (Va.) against University School (Fla.) at 3 p.m.

The University School squad also features Vernon Carey, the No. 1 overall prospect in the class of 2019 and an early recipient of a UK scholarship offer.

Quickley

UK Coach John Calipari was in the Baltimore area on Wednesday night to check out Immanuel Quickley, the program’s five-star point guard signee for next season.

Quickley scored 15 points in his team’s 71-61 loss to St. Frances (Md.), the No. 1-ranked team locally. Quickley — a 6-foot-3 prospect — was UK’s first commitment for the class of 2018 and is expected to compete for the starting point guard job next season.

Earlier in the day, Quickley was one of 25 players named to the Naismith watch list for national high school player of the year honors.

Quickley

UK has one of the best basketball recruiting classes in the country for the class of 2018, but none of the Cats’ three early signees were included in the top 10 nationally in the new 247Sports player rankings released Thursday.

Immanuel Quickley (No. 14 overall) and Keldon Johnson (No. 15) are both considered five-star recruits by 247Sports, and Tyler Herro (No. 35) is a four-star prospect in those rankings. All three signed with UK last month.

Kentucky has finished with at least one top-10 recruit in the 247Sports rankings in every class under Coach John Calipari.

Quickley

If ESPN’s latest NBA Draft projection comes true, UK’s only basketball commitment for the class of 2018 will be in Lexington for only one season.

Immanuel Quickley is the No. 6 pick in ESPN’s new mock draft for 2019, posted by draft analyst Jonathan Givony on Friday morning. Quickley is ranked by Scout.com as the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2018 class and committed to UK last week.

The rest of the mock draft is heavy on UK players and recruiting targets.

High school basketball players are allowed to take five official visits — where the host college pays for most of the expenses — during the course of their recruitment, and many of UK’s top targets for the class of 2018 have already scheduled the bulk of their trips.

Five-star players R.J. Barrett, Keldon Johnson and Immanuel Quickley have been on UK’s campus for official visits in recent weeks, and another mega 2018 recruit — Zion Williamson — is expected to be in Lexington this weekend.

Quickley

As expected, five-star point guard Immanuel Quickley will not take his official visit to Miami this weekend due to the growing threat of Hurricane Irma.

Quickley — a 6-foot-3 prospect from Maryland — visited Kansas last week and is expected to visit UK next week. Miami is the only other school under consideration, and it’s unclear whether he will reschedule that trip.

UK remains the heavy favorite to land Quickley, who is ranked by Scout.com as the No. 8 overall prospect in the class of 2018.
