Kaufman

There’s more momentum for Indiana in the recruitment of Trey Kaufman, a talented forward who has been on UK’s recruiting radar since last year.

Mike Pegram — the Indiana insider for the 247Sports’ Hoosiers site — logged a new Crystal Ball prediction in favor of IU, which already had public predictions going their way from national recruiting experts Corey Evans and Andrew Slater.

Kaufman — a 6-foot-8 forward from Sellersburg, Ind. — is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 41 overall player in the 2021 class. Indiana, Louisville, Purdue and Xavier have generally been seen as a top four in his recruitment, but several other schools are keeping tabs on him, and he was expected to be one of the main players on Kentucky’s watch list had the April evaluation periods gone on as planned last month.

Louisville, Purdue and Xavier have commonly been mentioned as the other top contenders in Kaufman’s recruitment, and all four of those schools have extended scholarship offers.

Five-star basketball recruit Keion Brooks will announce his college decision March 15.

Brooks — a 6-foot-7 wing from Fort Wayne, Ind. — is one of UK’s top remaining targets in the 2019 class. Indiana and Michigan State are though to be the Cats’ top competition in Brooks’ recruitment, which has also included official visits to North Carolina and UCLA.

Several recruiting analysts have made predictions in favor of Kentucky in recent weeks, following Brooks’ visit to Lexington last month. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 13 overall prospect in the 2019 class.

Brooks will make his college announcement in his hometown of Fort Wayne.

Brooks

The momentum in the recruitment of five-star basketball prospect Keion Brooks appears to be shifting away from longtime favorite Indiana, and UK could be in line to take over that frontrunner status in the very near future.

Brooks, of course, visited Kentucky over the weekend and was sitting directly behind the UK bench — right next to Wildcats signee Dontaie Allen — for the team’s dismantling of No. 1 Tennessee in front of the best Rupp Arena crowd of the year Saturday night.

Indiana, meanwhile, has lost 10 of 11 games and sits near the bottom of the Big Ten standings in Archie Miller’s second season as head coach. Brooks also cancelled a visit to Michigan State that was set for Sunday, unable to make the trip to the early afternoon game in East Lansing after watching the Cats play late Saturday night.

Brooks

More than two months removed from his official visit to UK, five-star basketball prospect Keion Brooks is still undecided in his recruitment.

Brooks — a 6-foot-7 wing from Fort Wayne, Ind. — joined the Tipton Edits Instagram page Friday night, and he had great things to say about the Wildcats’ program and his trip to Lexington in October.

“The main thing I pulled away from that was just how great of a basketball mind that Coach Cal is,” Brooks said. “We were sitting at breakfast, and he was still trying to figure out stuff he was going to do in practice. … I was just fascinated by how smart he is.”

Brooks

ESPN recruiting insider Jeff Borzello is now predicting that Kentucky is in the best position to land highly touted forward Keion Brooks, who is taking his official visit to Lexington this weekend.

In Borzello’s latest “Hot Board” post chronicling the top official visits of the week, he predicted UK would ultimately land the 6-foot-7 prospect from Fort Wayne, Ind., though he put his confidence level on that pick at 35 percent in what has been a tough-to-read recruitment.

Brooks has already taken official visits to UCLA and Indiana, and he’ll take official visits to North Carolina and Michigan State next month. Purdue is also among his finalists. ESPN ranks Brooks as the No. 33 overall player in the class of 2019, and he was one of the first recruits from that group to land a scholarship offer from Kentucky.

Brooks

247Sports national analyst Jerry Meyer has logged a new prediction in favor of Indiana for Keion Brooks, one of UK’s top basketball targets in the class of 2019.

Brooks — a 6-foot-7 small forward from Fort Wayne, Ind. — is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 7 overall prospect in the 2019 class, and he was one of the first players from that group to land a scholarship offer from Kentucky.

UK commitment Tyrese Maxey told the Herald-Leader last month that Brooks has been the No. 1 priority on his personal recruiting list. The two rising seniors have known each other since grade school and both play on the Nike circuit.
