Jalen Green

At one time in this 2020 basketball recruiting cycle, five-star shooting guard Jalen Green was seen as one of Kentucky’s top targets for next season.

That changed around the time that fellow five-star shooting guards Brandon “BJ” Boston and Terrence Clarke committed to the Wildcats following the summer AAU season. UK, in effect, moved on to other priorities, and Green moved on to other schools. Memphis and Oregon were seen as the top candidates to land his commitment after that.

Now, a new team might be emerging as a real threat in the recruitment.

Jalen Green

National recruiting expert Andrew Slater logged a prediction in favor of Oregon on the Crystal Ball page of five-star shooting guard Jalen Green on Monday, just after the California native wrapped up his official visit to the school.

Green — the No. 3 player in the 247Sports rankings — had been a longtime Kentucky recruiting target, but the Wildcats have moved on from his recruitment following Saturday’s commitment from five-star shooting guard Terrence Clarke, who should join several other talented guards and wings on next year’s UK team.

Jalen Green

Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway has been making waves on the recruiting trail with commitments from composite No. 1 recruit James Wiseman and former UK pledge DJ Jeffries, and he could be adding another top-five prospect to the Tigers in the near future.

247Sports national analyst Jerry Meyer logged a new prediction this weekend in favor of Memphis for five-star guard Jalen Green, the No. 1 player in the Rivals.com rankings for the 2020 class. Green — a 6-foot-5 player from California — is the No. 2 player in the 247Sports rankings for 2020.

Green is also one of the few 2020 prospects to already receive a scholarship offer from Kentucky, and the Wildcats have made him a major target. UK Coach John Calipari watched him play earlier this season, and he’s expected to visit Lexington over the next few months. He has already taken official visits to Memphis and Florida State.

Five-star guard Jalen Green — one of the top prospects in the class of 2020 — is the latest basketball recruit to land a scholarship offer from Kentucky.

Green — a 6-foot-5 player from Fresno, Calif. — hosted UK coaches for a visit last week and is the No. 2 overall prospect in the class of 2020, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He took an official visit to Memphis last month and also has early scholarship offers from Kansas, Villanova, UCLA, Arizona and several other top programs.

MaxPreps.com named Green the national sophomore of the year following last season, when he averaged 27.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game at the high school level.

Jalen Green

It’s still early, but some interesting Crystal Ball predictions popped up Thursday for two players that are likely to be major UK targets in the 2020 basketball recruiting cycle.

National recruiting expert Andrew Slater is predicting that California guard Jalen Green — the No. 2 player in the 247Sports composite rankings — will end up at Memphis, which is hosting him for an official visit this weekend. Top UK target James Wiseman and 2020 target RJ Hampton are also visiting Penny Hardaway’s program this weekend.
