Lecque

Five-star basketball prospect Jalen Lecque has had one of the toughest high-profile recruitments to handicap in the 2019 class, and he cut his list to seven schools Thursday night.

No longer in contention is Kentucky, which could have several talented backcourt returnees from this season’s team and already has a commitment from five-star point guard Tyrese Maxey. The new list for Lecque — the No. 13 recruit in the 247Sports composite rankings — features Louisville, North Carolina State, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas Christian, Texas Tech and UCLA.

Lecque

Five-star guard Jalen Lecque narrowed his list to seven schools Thursday night, and Kentucky was not among those to make the cut.

Lecque — a 6-foot-3 prospect from Teaneck, N.J. — listed Louisville, North Carolina State, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas Christian, Texas Tech and UCLA as his finalists. He is the No. 13 overall recruit in the class of 2019, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Kentucky extended a scholarship offer to Lecque earlier this year, but the Cats haven’t been making a major push with backcourt targets in recent weeks. UK could return several guards from the current team, and the program already has 2019 commitments from five-star point guard Tyrese Maxey and highly touted wings Dontaie Allen and Kahlil Whitney.

Lecque

Jalen Lecque has received a UK basketball scholarship offer, according to national recruiting analyst Andrew Slater.

Lecque — a 6-foot-4 combo guard from New York, now playing for a high school in North Carolina — is the No. 9 overall prospect in the class of 2019, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He has talked about possibly moving to 2018 — his original class — but there’s been no final decision on that, and UK is already expected to have several talented backcourt players for next season.

If Lecque stays in the 2019 class, he’ll be among UK’s top targets at the position. He averaged 20.1 points, 9.3 assists and 9.1 rebounds per game this past season, and he’s now playing with the New York Rens — the former team of Hamidou Diallo — on the Nike circuit.

Lecque

Five-star combo guard Jalen Lecque is still on UK’s recruiting radar.

The New York native — now playing for Christ School in North Carolina — had an in-home visit with the Wildcats over the weekend, according to national recruiting analyst Andrew Slater.

Duke assistant coach Nate James is expected to visit Lecque on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-4 prospect has been on Kentucky’s radar for months, and the Herald-Leader has been told in the past that Lecque could reclassify to 2018 if he were to land a scholarship offer from a blueblood program like UK or Duke.

John Calipari

UK coaches John Calipari and Kenny Payne are expected to visit five-star guard Jalen Lecque in North Carolina on Wednesday, according to national recruiting analyst Andrew Slater.

Lecque — a 6-foot-4 prospect at Christ School (N.C.) — is currently the No. 12 overall prospect in the 2019 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He was originally in the 2018 class before moving back a grade to 2019, though he has publicly acknowledged in recent weeks that he’s considering reclassifying back to 2018, which would allow him to play college basketball next season.

Kentucky has only three signees so far for the 2018 class, and the Cats could have a spot for Lecque in that group.
