Skyy Clark

247Sports national analyst Jerry Meyer logged two new Crystal Ball predictions related to Kentucky basketball recruiting targets Tuesday, and one went in favor of the Wildcats.

First, the bad — but not unexpected — news for UK: Meyer is predicting that No. 1-ranked prospect Jonathan Kuminga will turn pro straight out of high school instead of playing one season of college basketball. Kuminga — a 6-foot-8 forward from Congo — graduated from his New Jersey high school earlier this month and is expected to formally announce that he is reclassifying to 2020 sometime soon. Kuminga has narrowed his choices to Kentucky, Auburn, Duke, Texas Tech and the G League, and he’s widely expected to choose the professional path. 247Sports recruiting expert Evan Daniels is also predicting that Kuminga will pick the G League.

Boston

One of Kentucky’s top basketball signees for next season will meet the Wildcats’ highest-ranked recruiting target Friday night in a game that will be shown live on national television.

UK signee Brandon Boston is set to lead star-studded Sierra Canyon (Calif.) — the high school team that features the sons of NBA legends LeBron James and Dwyane Wade — against The Patrick School (N.J.), which is led by Jonathan Kuminga, the No. 1 overall player in the class of 2021.

That game will be played at 9 p.m. Friday and televised live on ESPN2.

Kuminga

Kentucky Coach John Calipari will be in New Jersey on Wednesday night to see Jonathan Kuminga, according to national recruiting expert Andrew Slater.

Kuminga — a 6-foot-8 forward from the Congo, now playing for The Patrick School (N.J.) — is the unanimous No. 1 overall player in the class of 2021, and he was the first recruit from that group to land a scholarship offer from Kentucky. That offer came on a visit to Lexington for a game last season.

Kuminga

Five-star forward Jonathan Kuminga — the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2021 class — narrowed his recruitment to 10 schools Wednesday, and there was a notable omission.

Kuminga did not list Louisiana State among his many choices, a surprise given that the Tigers had been seen as a possible favorite by recruiting insiders in recent weeks. The 10 schools that did make Kuminga’s latest list were Kentucky, Auburn, Duke, Florida State, Georgia, Maryland, Memphis, Michigan, Texas Tech and Washington.

UK Coach John Calipari has made several trips to New Jersey this fall to visit Kuminga at The Patrick School — which is also Nick Richards’ alma mater — and the Wildcats are clearly making the 6-foot-8 forward from Congo a major recruiting priority.
