Brooks

ESPN recruiting insider Jeff Borzello is now predicting that Kentucky is in the best position to land highly touted forward Keion Brooks, who is taking his official visit to Lexington this weekend.

In Borzello’s latest “Hot Board” post chronicling the top official visits of the week, he predicted UK would ultimately land the 6-foot-7 prospect from Fort Wayne, Ind., though he put his confidence level on that pick at 35 percent in what has been a tough-to-read recruitment.

Brooks has already taken official visits to UCLA and Indiana, and he’ll take official visits to North Carolina and Michigan State next month. Purdue is also among his finalists. ESPN ranks Brooks as the No. 33 overall player in the class of 2019, and he was one of the first recruits from that group to land a scholarship offer from Kentucky.

Calipari visits a pair of top recruits in Indiana

Brooks

John Calipari was expected to be at La Lumiere (Ind.) on Friday to visit with highly touted frontcourt players Keion Brooks and Isaiah Stewart, as first reported by 247Sports national analyst Evan Daniels.

Brooks — a 6-foot-7 forward from Fort Wayne, Ind. — is a longtime UK target. It had been unclear how seriously the Cats were still recruiting Brooks following the commitments of wing players Kahlil Whitney and Isaiah Stewart, but UK is indeed involved with Brooks, who may analysts have been predicting to Indiana in recent weeks.

Stewart — a 6-9 center from Rochester, N.Y. — was on UK’s recruiting radar earlier this summer, though the Cats were not on the most recent list of schools he released. There have been rumblings over the past couple of weeks that Kentucky remains interested, however. Stewart is the No. 5 overall prospect in the class of 2019, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Brooks is No. 21 on that list.

Brooks

247Sports national analyst Jerry Meyer has logged a new prediction in favor of Indiana for Keion Brooks, one of UK’s top basketball targets in the class of 2019.

Brooks — a 6-foot-7 small forward from Fort Wayne, Ind. — is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 7 overall prospect in the 2019 class, and he was one of the first players from that group to land a scholarship offer from Kentucky.

UK commitment Tyrese Maxey told the Herald-Leader last month that Brooks has been the No. 1 priority on his personal recruiting list. The two rising seniors have known each other since grade school and both play on the Nike circuit.

Maxey

UK commitment Tyrese Maxey has made it past the final round of cuts and will be part of the USA Basketball U18 team that travels to Canada later this week to play for a FIBA gold medal.

Maxey — a 6-foot-3 point guard — was one of 12 players selected for the squad, which is being coached by Kansas’ Bill Self and will start international play Sunday night. The future Kentucky Wildcat — a member of the class of 2019 — has been in Colorado Springs since last week as part of the U18 training camp.

Other UK targets joining Maxey on the U18 team are Cole Anthony and Matthew Hurt. Both of those uncommitted 2019 prospects are also being recruited by Self.
