Brooks

The first pro-Kentucky predictions from a national recruiting analyst is in following five-star wing Keion Brooks’ visit to Lexington this past weekend.

National recruiting expert Andrew Slater logged a pick for the Wildcats on Brooks’ 247Sports Crystal Ball page early Tuesday morning. His prediction also moved Kentucky into a tie with Indiana for the favorite status on Brooks’ Crystal Ball page. Later in the day, 247Sports national analyst Jerry Meyer changed his pick from Indiana to UK, pushing the Cats past the Hoosiers.

Brooks

The momentum in the recruitment of five-star basketball prospect Keion Brooks appears to be shifting away from longtime favorite Indiana, and UK could be in line to take over that frontrunner status in the very near future.

Brooks, of course, visited Kentucky over the weekend and was sitting directly behind the UK bench — right next to Wildcats signee Dontaie Allen — for the team’s dismantling of No. 1 Tennessee in front of the best Rupp Arena crowd of the year Saturday night.

Indiana, meanwhile, has lost 10 of 11 games and sits near the bottom of the Big Ten standings in Archie Miller’s second season as head coach. Brooks also cancelled a visit to Michigan State that was set for Sunday, unable to make the trip to the early afternoon game in East Lansing after watching the Cats play late Saturday night.

Maxey

Tyrese Maxey picked up three victories — and three game MVP awards — during his weekend in Kentucky.

The UK signee played three games at Marshall County High School and didn’t disappoint, averaging 22.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists while earning top player honors in all three contests. Maxey played his Friday morning game in front of UK Coach John Calipari, who traveled to western Kentucky to see him play a day before leading the Wildcats to a victory over rival Louisville.

Maxey — a 6-foot-3 guard from Texas — signed with UK last month and is considered to be the No. 10 overall player in the class of 2019, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Jalen Green

Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway has been making waves on the recruiting trail with commitments from composite No. 1 recruit James Wiseman and former UK pledge DJ Jeffries, and he could be adding another top-five prospect to the Tigers in the near future.

247Sports national analyst Jerry Meyer logged a new prediction this weekend in favor of Memphis for five-star guard Jalen Green, the No. 1 player in the Rivals.com rankings for the 2020 class. Green — a 6-foot-5 player from California — is the No. 2 player in the 247Sports rankings for 2020.

Green is also one of the few 2020 prospects to already receive a scholarship offer from Kentucky, and the Wildcats have made him a major target. UK Coach John Calipari watched him play earlier this season, and he’s expected to visit Lexington over the next few months. He has already taken official visits to Memphis and Florida State.

UK basketball signee Dontaie Allen is expected to miss all three of Pendleton County’s games at this week’s Ashland Invitational with a knee injury, his head coach said Wednesday.

Pendleton County Coach Keaton Belcher said Allen — a 6-foot-6 wing and the state’s leading scorer and rebounder this season — is still limping badly from an injury suffered in the second quarter of last week’s game against Cooper. He’s due to be re-evaluated at UK Hospital on Wednesday night.

McDaniels

Basketball recruiting analyst Dain Ervin logged a new Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Kentucky this week for Jaden McDaniels, the highest-ranked recruit still on the Cats’ radar for 2019.

McDaniels — a 6-foot-9 forward from Seattle — visited Lexington earlier this year and has narrowed his recruitment to UK, San Diego State, Texas, UCLA and Washington, though information has been hard to come by regarding which way he might be leaning. McDaniels is the No. 5 overall prospect in the 2019 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Roach

247Sports national analyst Evan Daniels has logged a Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Villanova for five-star point guard Jeremy Roach, the first player at his position to land a UK scholarship offer in the class of 2020.

Roach — a 6-foot-2 prospect from Fairfax, Va. — is the No. 10 overall player in the 2020 class, according to the 247Sports rankings, and he’s already narrowed his list of schools to UK, Duke, North Carolina and Villanova.

Daniels is admittedly cautious with his Crystal Ball predictions, especially with younger players. His pick on Roach’s recruitment marks his first prediction for a 2020 recruit in more than two months. Roach is sitting out his junior season after suffering a serious knee injury this fall.
