Boston

Future Kentucky guard Brandon “BJ” Boston has been a standout for the star-studded Sierra Canyon (Calif.) basketball team this winter, and he’ll get a chance to play on national TV on Monday.

Boston and Sierra Canyon — a team that features the sons of NBA legends LeBron James and Dwyane Wade — will play against Virginia high school power Paul VI at 1 p.m. Monday on ESPNU as part of the Hoophall Classic from Springfield, Mass.

The game will be one of four major high school matchups Monday on ESPNU, but it’s the only one featuring a Kentucky basketball signee or target. Boston had 17 points and 10 assists in Sierra Canyon’s earlier game at Hoophall on Saturday.

Huntley-Hatfield

A major, made-for-ESPN high school basketball matchup Sunday night will feature a couple of five-star Kentucky recruiting targets.

The game between Florida prep powerhouses Montverde Academy and IMG Academy is set for 7:30 p.m. Sunday on ESPN, one of the marquee matchups at the annual Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass.

IMG Academy’s roster features five-star forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield and five-star post player Moussa Diabate, two prospects on Kentucky’s recruiting radar. Huntley-Hatfield was the first player in the 2022 class to land a UK scholarship offer, though he’s widely expected to end up in the 2021 class. He visited Kentucky for last month’s home game against Louisville.

Askew

Three future Kentucky players and one major UK basketball target were among the 25 high school seniors included Thursday on the Naismith midseason team, which serves as watch list for the annual award given to the top player in the country.

UK signees Devin Askew, Brandon Boston and Terrence Clarke all made the list, as did five-star forward Greg Brown, who visited Lexington last weekend and has narrowed his college choices to Kentucky, Auburn, Memphis, Michigan and Texas, his hometown school.

Clarke

The McDonald’s All-American selections for the class of 2020 will be announced Jan. 23, national recruiting analyst Evan Daniels confirmed Wednesday.

Kentucky’s presence in the annual all-star showcase is certain to continue this year.

UK shooting guard signees Brandon Boston and Terrence Clarke appear to be locks to make the McDonald’s All-American team. Kentucky point guard signee Devin Askew — ranked No. 22 by Rivals.com, No. 24 by ESPN and No. 27 by 247Sports — also has a great shot to make the team, though his inclusion might be a little more up in the air. Askew’s national ranking is right in the cut-off zone for the 24-player McDonald’s team, and there are 10 guards ahead of him in the 247Sports composite rankings.

Greg Brown

During a couple of lulls in Kentucky’s 76-67 victory over Alabama on Saturday, there was a clear chant from a handful of fans in the UK student section.

“We want Greg! We want Greg!”

Those chants were directed at Greg Brown, the 6-foot-9 basketball recruit sitting directly behind the Wildcats bench, just a few feet away from the Kentucky students. Brown is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 7 overall prospect in the class of 2020, making him UK’s top-ranked uncommitted target for that group.

Maxey

Just two Kentucky Wildcats were included in the latest NBA mock draft from ESPN on Friday, and another UK player tumbled dozens of spots in the pro prospect rankings.

ESPN now lists freshman guard Tyrese Maxey as the No. 6 overall pick in the 2020 draft, going to the Washington Wizards. The five players listed ahead of Maxey in the new mock draft were, in order, Georgia guard Anthony Edwards, former Memphis post player James Wiseman, Australian league guard LaMelo Ball, Iowa State sophomore point guard Tyrese Haliburton, and Israeli wing Deni Avdija.

Huntley-Hatfield

ESPN’s latest nationally televised high school basketball game will feature one of Kentucky’s top up-and-coming recruiting targets.

Brandon Huntley-Hatfield — a 6-foot-9 power forward from Clarksville, Tenn. — will lead IMG Academy (Fla.) against Huntington Prep (W.Va.) in a game that is scheduled to be shown live on ESPN2 at 9 p.m. Friday.

Huntley-Hatfield is currently ranked No. 6 overall in the 2022 class by 247Sports, but the coaches that are recruiting him view him as a likely 2021 recruit. He landed a scholarship offer from Kentucky late last year and was in Rupp Arena for the UK-Louisville game last month.

Greg Brown

Five-star power forward Greg Brown — the top-ranked prospect on UK’s recruiting board for 2020 — is expected in Lexington this weekend for his official visit, but there might be another favorite for his commitment.

Rivals.com national analyst Corey Evans switched his Future Cast prediction from Texas to Memphis this week, shortly after Brown and his family were in Memphis for their official visit. Brown — a 6-foot-9 prospect from Austin, Texas — is the son of a former Longhorns football star and has been widely expected to ultimately pick that school. His other finalists are Auburn and Michigan.

Christopher

Michigan is already off to a hot start to Coach Juwan Howard’s first full recruiting cycle in charge of the program, and the Wolverines could have even more good news coming soon.

Rivals.com national analyst Corey Evans logged a recent Future Cast prediction in favor of Michigan for five-star shooting guard Josh Christopher, who at one point was a major Kentucky recruiting target. Christopher — a standout recruit from the Los Angeles area — had widely been expected to stay on the West Coast for college, with UCLA emerging in the latter half of last year as the favorite among recruiting experts.
