Huntley-Hatfield

As previously planned, top-10 national recruit Brandon Huntley-Hatfield was in the Rupp Arena crowd for Saturday’s rivalry game between Kentucky and Louisville, sitting directly behind the UK bench.

Huntley-Hatfield — a 6-foot-9, 224-pound power forward from Clarksville, Tenn. — currently plays for IMG Academy in Florida and is seen as one of the most promising frontcourt prospects in the country. He was the only major recruit to visit Lexington for Saturday’s game.

247Sports ranks him as the No. 6 overall player in the class of 2022, though he is a prime candidate for reclassification, and the Herald-Leader has been told that the college coaches recruiting him are expecting him to ultimately end up in the 2021 class.

Devin Askew

National recruiting expert Andrew Slater had switched his Crystal Ball pick to Kentucky in the recruitment of Devin Askew, becoming the latest insider to pick the Cats for the five-star point guard from California.

Askew — a top-10 player in the 2021 class — has taken recent visits to Kentucky, Louisville, Arizona and Memphis, and he is expected to announce his college decision sometime in the next couple of weeks. There is also a chance that Askew will jump to the 2020 class, though that decision likely won’t be made until after the high school season.

Slater had originally picked Louisville for Askew, but UK landed the last visit in his recruitment — an official visit this past weekend — and the Wildcats appear to have all of the momentum going into his college decision.

Devin Askew

247Sports national analyst Jerry Meyer is the latest college basketball recruiting expert to put in a pro-Kentucky prediction for five-star point guard Devin Askew.

Meyer put in the pick for Kentucky over the weekend, when Askew was in Lexington for his official visit. He’s also taken recent recruiting trips to Arizona, Louisville and Memphis, and U of L has been seen as the Wildcats’ biggest competition for the California native.

Rivals.com national analyst Corey Evans is also predicting that Askew will end up at Kentucky, telling the Herald-Leader late last week that he’d be a great fit for the Wildcats.

Aidan Igiehon

Louisville now holds 100 percent of the Crystal Ball predictions on the page of Aidan Igiehon, a top-50 post player in the class of 2019.

Igiehon — a native of Ireland who now plays for a high school in New York — recently narrowed his list of schools to U of L, Kentucky, Oregon and St. John’s. He’s already taken official visits to Louisville and Oregon, and he postponed a trip to St. John’s that was scheduled for his weekend.

Johnson

Louisville Trinity guard David Johnson has already been committed to the hometown Cardinals once, and the in-state basketball star has been widely expected to ultimately end up in U of L’s 2019 class again down the road.

Mike Hughes, who covers Louisville for 247Sports, logged a Crystal Ball prediction Saturday night in favor of Georgia. Until then, all of the Crystal Ball picks on Johnson’s page had been in favor of the Cardinals.

Georgia is hosting Johnson for an official visit this weekend.

DJ Jeffries

The fall recruiting period begins Sunday, when college coaches will start traveling around the country to meet with their top targets in the 2019 class and beyond.

Heading into that fall recruiting period, there have been a few interesting Crystal Ball predictions related to some of the top prospects in the nation.

Perhaps the most intriguing development regards former UK commitment DJ Jeffries, who was viewed as a near-lock to Memphis in the immediate aftermath of his decommitment from the Wildcats earlier this summer.

Pendleton County basketball star Dontaie Allen has scheduled unofficial visits to Kentucky on Aug. 1 and Louisville on Aug. 13.

Allen — a 6-foot-6 wing — had a tremendous start to the July recruiting season with his M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs travel team last week, earning scholarship offers from Louisville, Florida and Auburn and generating continued interest from the UK coaching staff.

It’s possible that UK will extend a scholarship offer during next month’s visit. Last week was the first time that John Calipari had seen Allen play, and the Kentucky head coach was not in Lexington when Allen visited UK last month.
