Maxey

Four Kentucky basketball players are in the draft range for this year’s NBA Draft, according to the new rankings released by ESPN on Tuesday morning.

Freshman guard Tyrese Maxey continues to be Kentucky’s top pro prospect, coming in as the No. 8 overall player in the new ESPN rankings for the 2020 draft. Maxey is followed by junior center Nick Richards, who wasn’t even in the top 100 a few weeks ago and is now rated as the No. 46 overall player for the draft.

Maxey

Just two Kentucky Wildcats were included in the latest NBA mock draft from ESPN on Friday, and another UK player tumbled dozens of spots in the pro prospect rankings.

ESPN now lists freshman guard Tyrese Maxey as the No. 6 overall pick in the 2020 draft, going to the Washington Wizards. The five players listed ahead of Maxey in the new mock draft were, in order, Georgia guard Anthony Edwards, former Memphis post player James Wiseman, Australian league guard LaMelo Ball, Iowa State sophomore point guard Tyrese Haliburton, and Israeli wing Deni Avdija.

It’s still early in the season, and three Kentucky Wildcats are still listed among ESPN’s Top 100 prospects for the 2020 NBA Draft, but two of those three players dropped slightly in the website’s latest update Friday.

Freshman guard Tyrese Maxey is still the highest-ranked Wildcat on ESPN’s board, staying put at No. 8 in the latest rankings. His backcourt teammate Ashton Hagans, a sophomore, dropped from No. 59 to No. 60, which would be the final spot in the 60-player NBA Draft.

Maxey

ESPN updated its prospect rankings for the 2020 NBA Draft this week, and three Kentucky Wildcats are within the draft range for next year.

The new ESPN Top 100 placed freshman guard Tyrese Maxey at No. 8, freshman forward Kahlil Whitney at No. 17 (just outside the lottery), and sophomore guard Ashton Hagans at No. 59 overall. There are 60 total picks in the NBA Draft.

If those three players departed after this season — joining grad transfer Nate Sestina, who will be out of eligibility — that would leave six scholarship players to possibly return to Kentucky for next season. As UK fans have seen in the past, however, it won’t be that simple. Transfers and early entries regardless of draft stock have become common within UK’s program.

ESPN’s latest NBA mock draft for next year is out, and it includes a trio of Kentucky Wildcats in the first round.

Incoming guard Tyrese Maxey is the highest-ranked player on ESPN’s board, listed at No. 12 overall, which would put him in lottery range. The early mock draft also includes fellow freshman Kahlil Whitney at No. 19 overall and returning point guard Ashton Hagans at No. 30, the final pick of the first round.

Tyler Herro moving up the NBA Draft boards

Herro

ESPN has once again updated its Top 100 player rankings for this year’s NBA Draft, and UK freshman Tyler Herro keeps moving in the right direction.

Herro is now the No. 27 overall player on ESPN’s board — placing him in late-first round territory. He has moved up five spots since ESPN’s most recent mock draft a little more than two weeks ago. Herro was No. 40 overall the last time the Top 100 rankings were updated in mid-January.

The other UK player with the most interesting postseason decision to make will be freshman guard Ashton Hagans, who is No. 40 in ESPN’s new rankings. That’s 10 spots outside of the first round, though there’s obviously plenty of time for Hagans to keep moving toward that draft range.

Washington

ESPN’s list of the top NBA Draft prospects for 2019 was updated Thursday morning, and it now includes four Kentucky Wildcats among the top 50 players.

UK freshman Keldon Johnson remains the top Cat on the board at No. 10 overall, and he’s followed by sophomore forward PJ Washington at No. 20, well within first-round territory.

Further down the list are UK freshmen guards Tyler Herro (No. 40 overall) and Ashton Hagans (No. 43), both in positions that would put them in the middle of the second round of this year’s draft. No other UK players made the list, including post players EJ Montgomery and Nick Richards, two Wildcats who could be very important to the team’s 2019-20 roster if they decide to stick around for another season.

Kevin Knox

The last few weeks have not been kind to the NBA Draft prospects of this young Kentucky basketball team.

ESPN released its latest Top 100 rankings for the 2018 draft Monday morning, and several Wildcats dropped on the list.

Kevin Knox (No. 10) and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (No. 19) are in roughly the same spots they were for the ESPN update in mid-January, but they’re now the only two UK players in first-round territory.

Hamidou Diallo is now at No. 44 overall — a drop of 20 spots from a few weeks ago — and in mid-second-round territory. Jarred Vanderbilt has fallen seven spots to No. 57 overall over the past few weeks. That would put him among the last picks in the draft.

Gilgeous-Alexander

UK freshman Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been the Wildcats’ best player over the past few weeks, and it’s looking like that could lead to him playing only one season in a Kentucky uniform.

ESPN’s latest Top 100 rankings for the 2018 NBA Draft were posted Thursday morning, and Gilgeous-Alexander has moved up to the No. 18 overall position — just four spots out of the lottery range. In a separate post Thursday, analysts from ESPN noted that Gilgeous-Alexander is making a strong case to be the third-best guard in this draft class — behind Trae Young and Collin Sexton.
