Keldon Johnson

Keldon Johnson remained a top-10 national prospect in ESPN’s new rankings for the class of 2018, but he was one of three future Kentucky Wildcats that dropped in the website’s final update for this recruiting cycle.

Johnson fell one spot to No. 7 overall in the final rankings released Tuesday. Also dropping in the ESPN rankings were UK signees Immanuel Quickley (from No. 17 to No. 23 overall) and Tyler Herro (from No. 25 to No. 28 overall).

Before the final update, ESPN was the only major recruiting service that pegged Herro as a five-star recruit. He is now a four-star player on ESPN’s list.

New UK commitment EJ Montgomery jumped two spots to No. 14 overall.

Duke’s trio of R.J. Barrett, Zion Williamson and Cameron Reddish finished 1-2-3, respectively, in the final ESPN rankings.

Rivals.com finalized its basketball recruiting rankings for players in the class of 2018 on Monday, and Duke signee R.J. Barrett remains the No. 1 prospect for next season’s freshman class.

The Blue Devils no longer have a sweep of the top three players in 2018, however.

North Carolina signee Nassir Little jumped from No. 5 to No. 2 in the final rankings, leapfrogging Duke commitments Cameron Reddish, who fell one spot to No. 3, and Zion Williamson, who dropped two spots to No. 5. Oregon signee Bol Bol is No. 4 overall in the final rankings.

UK signee Tyler Herro logged two points and one assist in the Nike Hoop Summit on Friday night, going 1-for-3 from the floor in USA Basketball’s 89-76 loss to the World Select Team, which was led by Duke signee R.J. Barrett.

Herro played 7 minutes and 18 seconds off the bench, the lowest amount of playing time on the 10-player USA squad. Kansas-bound shooting guard Quentin Grimes played 34 minutes for Team USA.

UK signee Keldon Johnson was also selected for the Hoop Summit — and made the trip to Portland, Ore. — but he was sidelined for the game itself with a sprained ankle suffered earlier this month.

UK basketball signee Tyler Herro scored 13 points and added five rebounds, five assists and three steals in his team’s 146-136 loss at the Jordan Brand Classic in Brooklyn on Sunday night.

Herro — a 6-foot-5 shooting guard — was 5-for-9 from the field and 1-for-3 from three-point range. He led his team in assists and played 20 minutes as a starter.

Fellow UK signee Keldon Johnson did not play in the game due to a sprained ankle suffered in the GEICO national championships last week. Both Herro and Johnson are scheduled to participate in the Nike Hoop Summit later this week.

Tyler Herro

UK basketball signee Tyler Herro announced Wednesday that he has been named to the U.S. team for the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Ore., in April.

Herro will be one of 12 American players in the game, which is one of the premier postseason all-star events in high school basketball. The limited number of prospects chosen for the game actually makes it more exclusive than the McDonald’s All-American Game and Jordan Brand Classic.

Quickley

UK has one of the best basketball recruiting classes in the country for the class of 2018, but none of the Cats’ three early signees were included in the top 10 nationally in the new 247Sports player rankings released Thursday.

Immanuel Quickley (No. 14 overall) and Keldon Johnson (No. 15) are both considered five-star recruits by 247Sports, and Tyler Herro (No. 35) is a four-star prospect in those rankings. All three signed with UK last month.

Kentucky has finished with at least one top-10 recruit in the 247Sports rankings in every class under Coach John Calipari.

Tyler Herro

Kentucky is expected to get its third basketball commitment for the class of 2018 on Tuesday.

Four-star shooting guard Tyler Herro — a 6-foot-5 prospect from Milwaukee — is scheduled to announce his college decision at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, the day before the end of the early signing period.

Herro wrapped up his official visit to Lexington on Sunday, and UK is the only school that he will see before making his college announcement. Kansas, Oregon, Villanova and Butler have all been recruiting Herro since he decommitted from Wisconsin last month, but he hasn’t taken trips to any of those schools.

Herro

Four-star shooting guard Tyler Herro said Sunday night that he will announce his college decision Tuesday, one day before the end of the early signing period and just a couple of days after wrapping up his official visit to Kentucky.

UK has emerged as the major favorite in the recruitment of Herro, a 6-foot-5 prospect from Milwaukee who backed out of a commitment to Wisconsin last month. He took his first official visit to UK over the weekend, and he will not be visiting any other schools between now and his college announcement.
