Maxey

UK basketball signee Tyrese Maxey and a couple of five-star Wildcats recruiting targets will be on national television Friday night as part of the annual Nike Hoop Summit all-star game.

Maxey and highly touted forward Matthew Hurt — one of UK’s top remaining targets in the 2019 class — will represent USA Basketball at the event. The American roster also features Memphis signee James Wiseman, Florida signee Scottie Lewis and several other top high school seniors.

Five-star center N’Faly Dante — a Mali native and the second player in the 2020 class to land a UK scholarship offer — will represent the World Team, which also features former UK target Oscar Tshiebwe, a West Virginia signee. Dante is considering a move to the 2019 class, which would allow him to play college basketball next season, and Kentucky remains a legitimate player in his recruitment.

The Nike Hoop Summit will be played in Portland, Ore., and televised live at 10 p.m. Friday on ESPN2.

UK basketball commitments Tyrese Maxey and Kahlil Whitney were named to the Jordan Brand Classic on Friday night, and they might end up doing a little recruiting at next month’s game.

Joining Maxey and Whitney on the “Away Team” will be five-star UK targets Keion Brooks and Jaden McDaniels, who are both still weighing their college decisions. Brooks is scheduled to announce his choice this Friday — likely either UK or Indiana — so he’ll be committed before the Jordan Game on April 20, but there’s a chance that McDaniels is still uncommitted by that time.

McDaniels has narrowed his list to UK, San Diego State, Texas, UCLA and Washington, his hometown school.

Maxey — a 6-foot-2 recruit from Texas — was selected Thursday for the McDonald’s Game, which will be played March 27 in Atlanta. He committed to the Cats in May and officially signed with Kentucky in November.
