Omoruyi

Major Kentucky basketball target Cliff Omoruyi will head to Arizona State on Tuesday for the next official visit in his recruitment.

Omoruyi — a 6-foot-11 post prospect from Nigeria — has previously visited Auburn, and he’s repeatedly said that he plans to take his other three official visits (to Kentucky, Rutgers and UConn) before making a final college decision. His hope is to get to games at those schools before the regular season ends.

Huntley-Hatfield

With Kentucky getting a day off from practice Wednesday, UK assistant coach Joel Justus was dispatched to Florida to check out five-star forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield, the Herald-Leader was told.

Huntley-Hatfield — a 6-foot-8 prospect from Clarksville, Tenn. — plays for IMG Academy (Fla.) and has emerged as a consensus top-10 recruit in the 2022 class. He’s ranked by 247Sports as the No. 6 overall player in that group.

Kentucky hosted Huntley-Hatfield for a visit on Dec. 28, the day of the Wildcats’ win over Louisville, and Justus has been the primary contact in the recruitment. Huntley-Hatfield was the first player from the 2022 class to earn a UK scholarship offer, though he is widely expected to reclassify to 2021.

Huntley-Hatfield

As previously planned, top-10 national recruit Brandon Huntley-Hatfield was in the Rupp Arena crowd for Saturday’s rivalry game between Kentucky and Louisville, sitting directly behind the UK bench.

Huntley-Hatfield — a 6-foot-9, 224-pound power forward from Clarksville, Tenn. — currently plays for IMG Academy in Florida and is seen as one of the most promising frontcourt prospects in the country. He was the only major recruit to visit Lexington for Saturday’s game.

247Sports ranks him as the No. 6 overall player in the class of 2022, though he is a prime candidate for reclassification, and the Herald-Leader has been told that the college coaches recruiting him are expecting him to ultimately end up in the 2021 class.

Greg Brown

Five-star basketball recruit Greg Brown has set his official visit to Kentucky for the weekend of Jan. 10, which means he’s likely to see a UK game early in the Southeastern Conference schedule.

Brown — a 6-foot-9 power forward from Austin, Texas — has already narrowed his list of schools to Kentucky, Auburn, Memphis, North Carolina and Texas, his hometown program. He had already planned to visit UNC for its midnight madness event later this month, and he’s set official visits to Texas for this weekend, Auburn for Nov. 29, and Memphis for Jan. 3.

His schedule of visits indicates he will wait until the spring to officially sign with the college of his choice. The early signing period ends in mid-November.

Blackshear

Virginia Tech basketball star Kerry Blackshear Jr. will take his first recruiting visit as a prospective graduate transfer to Florida, according to a report from Rivals.com national analyst Corey Evans on Wednesday night.

Evans reported that Blackshear — a 6-foot-10 player with one season of college eligibility remaining — would be in Gainesville starting Thursday. He is an Orlando native, and the Gators have a big need in the frontcourt next season, though Mike White’s squad is loaded with talented guards and wings.

Kentucky and Texas A&M are two other schools that have received significant buzz as possible landing spots for Blackshear, but no visits have yet been scheduled to those two schools. Blackshear averaged 14.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game last season and is ranked by ESPN as the No. 1 graduate transfer this year.

Hurt — a 6-foot-9 prospect from Rochester, Minn. — is the No. 7 overall player in the 247Sports composite rankings for the 2019 class, and he’s been one of UK’s top recruiting targets for the past year. His planned official visit to UK will be the first of his recruitment and was first reported Sunday night by Stockrisers analyst Jake Weingarten.

The early signing period for high school seniors ended Wednesday, so Hurt will not be officially signing with a college until the spring. He’s also considering Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, Memphis, Minnesota and Villanova.
